One In Five Are Uninsured

By Ethan Kalvin

A recent news report on the state of America and the health insurance crisis in our nation brought out some very surprising health statistic numbers. The report said that currently one in five Americans is completely without insurance and this number is expected to rise as more and more people become unemployed and are unable to pay their health insurance premiums. This is a problem that is just getting worse and worse as the years pass, and it doesn't seem that it is being addressed, and I can assure you it is not being addressed effectively.

A CDC report has figured that 40 million people are what make up the one in five ratio of people with no health insurance. In addition, 20% of them have gone without treatment because they couldn't afford it. The number should be lowering considering the plans being put into place for children of lower and upper middle class.

Because people couldn't afford them, they went without medical care, prescription medicines, mental health care and dental and vision care. Many people said had they had insurance, they would have taken care of these items.

The majority of people who are not insured in this country are children and the elderly, which are also the ones who need it most. With so much advancement in the medical field, it is atrocious to think there are people out there without any medical care at all.

The first priority should be to take care of our people. We send supplies to so many other countries that are disadvantaged. We need to help our own nation before we are in a position to move to other nations. Home is where good will begins. - 16089
